Harana

Harana is a way of courting a woman through serenading her. For a young man in colonial Philippines, it was certainly advantageous to possess musical abilities as it was often useful in courting a Filipina woman. Before, for women’s hearts to be won, tradition must be followed so harana was a common thing to do back in the day. This was often seen as a romantic gesture because the man is publicly displaying his devotion to his beloved. Though when the person you serenade is not that really intrested in you it may embarass you and break your heart so it’s pretty risky to harana someone who you only have a crush on, better to do it on someone you’re a relationship with.

When you would do a harana you should prepare your instruments and song/s and practice them. The suitor would usually gather a few friends to help him out. It’s best if you would do it in the evening due to the daytime tropical weather and it would have a more romantic atmosphere.

Nowadays harana is a not so popular way of courting a woman a man likes, though people from the rural areas still do it. The Philippines was also influenced by countries like America, Spain, Etc.  of other ways to court women. The rise of technology and social media also caused the tradition to be almost non existent, though that doesn’t mean harana is non-romantic anymore, it’s just not so popular.

School Year 2015-2016

Sad to say, this school year is coming to an end. This school year was a fun year with much laughter with friends. Though it has also been a year full of projects and school work with this year’s grading system with performance tasks being half of our grades.

One of my regrets is procrastination.  The avoidance of doing a task which needs to be accomplished. I am a pretty laidback and person when it comes to assignments or life in general.

Another one of my  regrets is that I didn’t spend more time with my friends. My friends are the source of my laughter and my having fun. School would be boring without all those fun moments with them.

So guys, never procrastinate. Procrastination can waste your time and make you less productive you might regret it. Make a schedule for all your assignments and projects. Spend more time with friends, laughter can make stressful school life  less stressful and more memorable.

A place that I want to go to in the future

My first ever favorite song was a jazz song when I was 3 years old, but my love for jazz has only started when I was 12 years old and started learning the drums. I liked jazz because of my father who plays jazz everyday and it’s also the reason why started playing the drums. At least once in my life I want to go to an international jazz festival somewhere in places like Copenhagen, Denmark where I could go to a jazz fest with my father and brother.

Since the 1960’s, Copenhagen has been home to a flourishing jazz community. Many American jazz musicians have spent some time immersed in the Copenhagen jazz scene, so it’s no surprise that the city hosts one of the world’s best jazz festivals.

Every July, roughly 260,000 music-lovers gather to enjoy 1,100 shows in cafes, in concert halls, throughout the city’s streets and in massive open-air venues. The festival has events catered to everyone from children to seniors, proving that jazz really is timeless.

Blackbird

Blackbird

The Beatles

Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise

Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these sunken eyes and learn to see
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to be free

Blackbird fly, blackbird fly
Into the light of the dark black night

Blackbird fly, blackbird fly
Into the light of the dark black night

Favorite Line

“Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly”

Paul McCartney wrote this about the civil rights struggle for blacks after reading about race riots in the US to support for black Americans, particularly women (“bird” is British slang for “woman”). He later explained that he chose a more poetic approach to the song – rather than singing “black woman living in Little Rock” – so that listeners could apply its message to their own lives.
